Educational Profile of Odisha
Odisha has been in the forefront of education and research since several ages. There are evidences of scholars from various parts of the world visting Odisha for research n philosophy, astronomy, mathematics and science in Pushpagiri, one the oldest universities of India.
The Cuttack Zilla school, Odisha's first modern school was established in 1866 and later extended to Colleggiate school in 1868.Several years later the Zilla school was converted into a full bachelor's degree granting college under the then commissioner, T. E. Ravenshaw. This college was named as Ravenshaw College after him. Women’s education also received a lot of importance with the establishment of the Ravenshaw Hindu Girls' School in 1873.
Over the past few decades, Odisha government introduced several education reforms for the development of education. The central and state governments have introduced several plans that are working towards empowering the women and the tribals of Orissa and teaching them the benefits of education.
